These terms govern the contract between you (the customer) and us (Piano Recycling) when you book a piano collection through pianorecycling.co.uk.
If you book a collection, you accept these terms. If you don’t accept them, don’t book.
1. Who we are
Piano Recycling is a trading name of J Blades, a sole trader registered in the United Kingdom.
- Trading address: Plover Barn, Kings Lane, Longcot, Oxfordshire SN7 7SS
- VAT number: GB153669780
- ICO registration number: C1935467
- Contact: recycling@pianospeed.com
References in these terms to “we”, “us” and “our” mean J Blades trading as Piano Recycling. References to “you” and “your” mean the person making the booking.
2. The service
We provide a paid piano collection service in mainland England, Scotland and Wales. We do not currently collect in Northern Ireland, the Islands, the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
The service includes:
- One scheduled visit to your address on a date you choose from the dates offered for your postcode
- Removal of one piano (and its stool if present) from a ground-floor location with no steps and a clear path to the van within approximately 20 metres
- Transport, assessment, and onward processing of the piano in line with What happens to your piano
The service does not include moving other items, dismantling fitted furniture to create access, removing fixings or anchors holding the piano in place, or any return visit unless separately arranged and paid for.
3. Placing a booking
A booking is placed by completing the online booking form, declaring the piano type and access details accurately, and paying the price in full by card or PayPal.
A contract between you and us is formed only when:
- We confirm your booking by email, and
- Your payment has cleared
If we are unable to accept your booking (for example, your postcode is outside our coverage area, or no collection slots are available on your chosen date), we will tell you and refund any payment taken.
4. Pricing and payment
Our prices are fixed and include VAT at the prevailing rate:
| Piano type | Price (inc VAT) |
|---|---|
| Digital / electric piano / keyboard | £199 |
| Upright piano | £299 |
| Grand or baby grand piano | £399 |
Payment is taken in full at the time of booking. The booking is not confirmed until payment clears. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express through Stripe, and PayPal balance / linked accounts through PayPal.
We do not take payment on the day of collection. We do not take cash.
Additional charges may apply where access is not as declared, or the piano is not as declared. See Section 7 — Variations and additional charges.
5. Your responsibilities
When you place a booking, you confirm that:
- You are the owner of the piano, or have the owner’s permission to arrange its removal
- The piano is the type you have declared (digital, upright or grand/baby grand)
- The collection address and access details you have given are accurate
- You will be present (or someone authorised by you will be present) at the address during the collection slot
- The piano will be accessible at the address at the time of collection
- Where you have declared the piano is on the ground floor with no steps and clear access, that is true
If any of these change after booking, tell us as soon as possible via recycling@pianospeed.com so we can update the booking, agree any change in price, or — if necessary — agree a different date.
6. Our responsibilities
We will:
- Attend the collection address during the agreed slot on your chosen date (we will text or email an arrival window the day before)
- Send trained, professional piano movers using proper lifting equipment, dollies, straps and corner protection
- Maintain insurance against damage to your piano, your property and to people during collection
- Remove the piano from a ground-floor location with no steps, in line with the declared access
- Send you a receipt and a brief confirmation when the piano has been collected
We do not provide a specific arrival time. Collections happen across a working day, and the precise time depends on the route. The arrival window will normally be a 2–3 hour window communicated the day before.
7. Variations and additional charges
Our headline prices cover ground-floor collection with no steps, a clear path within approximately 20 metres of where the van can park, and the piano type declared at booking.
Additional charges may apply where:
- The piano is on a different floor or behind steps that were not declared at booking
- Access is materially different from what was declared (narrow doorways, tight turns, blocked routes, parking restrictions adding significant distance, fragile or polished floors requiring extra protection, etc.)
- The piano is a different type from the one booked (for example, booked as upright but is in fact a grand) — the price difference for the correct type is payable before collection completes
- The collection takes substantially longer than a standard collection due to circumstances within your control
Where an additional charge applies, we will quote it to you in writing (email or text) and either:
- Agree the charge with you, take payment, and complete the collection, or
- Agree to leave the piano and (where appropriate under Refunds) refund or reschedule
We do not impose additional charges without first agreeing them with you in writing.
8. Cancellations and refunds
Cancellations, date changes and refunds are covered in our Refunds & Cancellations policy. The key points:
- Cancel 48 hours or more before your collection day → full refund
- Cancel inside 48 hours → non-refundable, but we can move your date once for free
- If we can’t collect on the day for reasons outside your control → free reschedule
- If the piano isn’t there, isn’t accessible, or isn’t what was declared, and we leave without it → the booking fee is forfeited
The full policy, including statutory cooling-off rights, is in the Refunds & Cancellations page.
9. What happens to your piano
Every piano collected is assessed first. Anything we can rehome is offered to players, teachers, schools or community projects before any other processing.
What can’t be rehomed is dismantled and separated into wood and metals. Landfill is avoided where possible.
Once a piano leaves the collection address, title to the piano passes from you to us. You will not have any further claim on the piano or its parts.
10. Insurance and liability
We hold public liability and goods-in-transit insurance covering damage to your piano, your property and to people during the collection. Insurance details and certificate available on request.
Subject to the rest of this section, our total liability under or in connection with the booking is limited to the value of the booking fee paid plus any direct, reasonable, foreseeable costs of repair to property damage we cause.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
- Any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law
We are not liable for:
- Loss or damage caused by the piano being in a condition not declared at booking (e.g. internally damaged, woodworm-infested, or with hidden weaknesses)
- Loss or damage caused by you, your representatives, or the building (e.g. floors that give way under load)
- Indirect, consequential or special losses, or loss of profit, opportunity or sentimental value
11. Force majeure
We are not liable for failing to collect on the agreed date where the failure is caused by events outside our reasonable control, including but not limited to: severe weather, road closures, traffic incidents, vehicle breakdown, industrial action, fuel shortages, public-health restrictions, or acts of government.
Where force majeure prevents collection, we will contact you as soon as possible to arrange a free reschedule to the next available slot for your postcode.
12. Privacy
Your personal data is handled in line with our Privacy Policy.
13. Complaints
If something has gone wrong, please email us at recycling@pianospeed.com with your booking reference. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 2 working days and to respond fully within 30 days.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version of these terms that applies to your booking is the version published on this page at the time you placed your booking. Material changes will be notified by email where we hold a valid email address for you.
15. Governing law
These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of ENGLAND & WALES and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of ENGLAND & WALES, save that nothing in this clause limits a consumer’s right to bring proceedings in the courts of the country where the consumer lives.
